Apple to Remove Major Component for iPhone 7?

Luke Cloherty, Editor

Apple, the World’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer by sales, could be about to remove a key component from the hardware for its next iPhone by ditching the headphone jack.

Rumours abound that the software behemoth is to leave out the 3.5mm jack for its next mobile release, the iPhone 7, and the Huffington Post has run with the story this morning.

The online magazine reports that Sum of Us, the petition website, has over 160,000 signatures in protest against the potential move, with many green activists citing electronic waste as a major side effect, due to the amount of 3.5mm enabled headphones that would become obsolete and thus discarded.

At this stage, it seems, it’s all online conjecture, but no doubt developments will follow.
