Microsoft to Launch Surface Laptop in UK

Software giant Microsoft has announced that its hybrid notebook/tablet, Surface Book, is finally due for release in the UK in early 2016.

The Surface Book was officially announced alongside the Surface Pro 4 in October just gone, and features a unique curved hinge and a pull-away tablet screen. The company said pre-orders would start today, with shipping due later this year, pre-empting a wrath of new third-party laptop releases at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

The Surface Book will have a battery life of roughly 12 hours when used in its laptop function , Microsoft says, but the tablet function has greatly reduced battery life, but can run most applications well enough.

Critics have heaped praise upon its combination of a true high-end laptop with a thinner, lighter tablet: the 13.5-inch, 3,000 by 2,000 pixels touchscreen has a backlit keyboard, two USB 3 ports and works with the Surface Pro 4 pen. The laptop is seen as a great new option for illustrators, designers and digital artists. It was released in a few different forms in the US , including a Core i7 version with a dedicated GeForce graphics card, boosting its gaming capabilities.
